Updated Wind Breaker fic: Acting on instinct (Sakura/Nirei/Suou/Kiryuu/Tsugeura)

I did a first round of editing to the end, and while in my head the last chapter was clunky (probably because I've changed direction on it about 3 times now), actually I was giggling and hiding my mouth behind my hand through most of it so I think it's okay :D The final sentence/paragraph however is clunky and doesn't work super well, but I have a bit of time to figure out something else.

Each chapter has a different PoV as each character figure some things out, and I like the story and how they all gravitate toward each other. However, the tone and narration are a bit distant, maybe a bit flat. It's the same mistake? flaw? that I saw in my OT3/multi-polyship Kn8 fic, where I was also spending a lot of brain power on "How would these characters fit together?". Maybe this is expected for the first few fics with a new ship. When I compare with DabiHawks for which I've written well over 100 fics (and over 200 with Hawks!), obviously I can't nail every nuance and subtlety of their emotions as easily. Yet. Anyway I still think there's good in there and I'm happy I wrote this :D I enjoy these characters so much.

Acting on instinct | Wind Breaker | Sakura/Nirei/Suou/Kiryuu/Tsugeura | 2.8k words (WIP, 3/5) | rated T

Summary: Something shifted for them all in that moment at Kiryuu's house. They all felt it. But Kiryuu was missing for it, so they can't do anything about it.

Not yet.

where I'm at

Just decided I wanted to update my influence list, o lucky reader!

Here are my current all-time Top Ten Cartoonists. Today's list is geared toward those whose work I not only enjoy and appreciate, but whose work speaks to and inspires my own current work. So they're more about where my cartooning head is at right now — therefore, some old major idols and influences don't appear, or appear differently ranked:
  1. Bill Watterson
  2. Dik Browne
  3. Alex Toth
  4. Lee Holley
  5. Hank Ketcham
  6. George Lichty
  7. Mort Walker
  8. Frank Robbins
  9. Jaime Hernandez
  10. Leonard Starr
And, to flesh things out further, here's my Top Ten of cartoonists currently working:
  1. Jon McNaught
  2. Thom
  3. Anthony Auffret
  4. Vera Brosgol
  5. Pascal Girard
  6. Seth
  7. Julien Neel
  8. Brian Crane
  9. Tonči Zonjić
  10. Tauhid Bondia

Enjoy and/or dig!

New Let's go Karaoke! fic: Locked in orbit (Kyouji/Satomi)

Watching the live-action movie motivated me to finally edit this fic! It doesn't actually work with the movie timeline and heavily relies on anime-only elements, but it is done :D

Locked in orbit | Let's go karaoke! | Kyouji/Satomi | 1.8k words | rated T

Summary: Kyouji has been in this time loop for a long time now, meeting Satomi and growing closer over and over, trying to keep him safe. Failing, sometimes. Those are the Bad Loops. If he plays his cards right though, Kyouji hopes he can make this loop the final one.

various things make a post: work, other work, home decor, fanfic, and Fallen London

It has been kind of a trip living in a Minneapolis suburb these past few months, but I think on the whole I prefer not to get into any of that here.

In general, life continues. I ruthlessly yanked my little section of payroll (mileage tracking and reimbursements) out of chaos into proper organization, and then a coworker I have never personally interacted with got promoted to assistant manager and assigned all the tasks upper management had been trying to foist onto me. Which, on the one hand, I am glad to be free of a task I didn't want in the first place (to say nothing of the sweet release of not dealing with the executive director), but on the other it's annoying to have somebody else reap the fruit of my labors.

Ah well. One moves on.

I am working pretty minimal hours at Not The IRS this year, which is reasonable since I am new locally and don't have a pre-existing client base. But I have been making a good impression on various walk-ins and drop-offs and people who just scheduled an appointment with whoever's available, so next year I should have some repeat/request clients as well as clients of opportunity. I think I really must buckle down and up my certification level, as well as get our in-house small business certification, because that will make me more likely to show up as "the best match for YOU, dear client!" in our various scheduling programs. I have been lazy about testing up because my old office knew I am actually qualified to be a level 4 (or 4.5ish) tax preparer despite only officially ranking as level 3, but unofficial ranks don't transfer like official ones, alas.

I am slowly getting my new apartment in order. All the basic stuff has been done for ages, but I still have some boxes I should unpack and tidy away, my kitchen needs more organizing, and I have yet to hang a few pieces of art. But I bought a new armchair and some nice throw pillows at Ikea recently, so I am good on the furniture front. I think I keep putting stuff off because I want to kind of spend an entire weekend doing Household Tasks, but obviously I won't HAVE an entire weekend until tax season is over. It's a silly psychological block, but annoyingly persistent.

Hmm. Also I have been reading a lot of heavily trope-laden Harry Potter fic lately, sort of returning to my fandom roots. I feel ambivalent about this because, you know, Rowling and her everything (may she die in a fire), but a lot of people still writing for HP have taken an attitude of "Fuck you, you transphobic neo-Nazi asshole, you don't get to steal and destroy a huge part of my childhood," and putting in all kinds of things specifically because she's expressed disapproval of them. Which is kind of nice.

I have to be wary when looking through people's AO3 bookmarks, because a lot of the tropes I am currently wallowing in tend to come with a side of "let's bash Ron and Hermione in order to set [fill in character(s)] up as better friends for Harry!" and I cannot be having with that. There is also quite a lot of Ginny-bashing (but not Neville or Luna), which irritates me because Ginny's (still) (always) my girl and the particular flavor of that bashing leans HEAVILY misogynistic. :(

Also I am having way too much fun playing Fallen London. I did try to narrow my focus to one plot thread at a time after initially running around and sticking my nose into everything, but the game really encourages sticking one's nose into everything so right now I have about two dozen things going and I focus on whichever one speaks to me on a given day. I remain a Watchful Lady in search of my Nemesis (my brother's murderer), but I have backburnered that plot until I get up to level 7 in all the Name quests and crank all my base stats to at least 100. (Currently my Persuasive is lagging. I keep getting distracted from seducing the Barbed Wit.) Then I think I will let the Ambitious Barrister make me a person of some minor importance (I backburnered that too; she's been sitting in my lodgings for DAYS, whoops!), after which I shall at long last embark on a voyage to Venderbight in search of the brother-killing asshole who I am definitely gonna shank one of these nights. :)

The Friday Five for 13 March 2026: Magical Questions

These questions were suggested by [personal profile] spiralsheep.

1. Have you ever watched illusion magic? Close-up, or in a stage show, or on television? Did it work for you?

2. Have you ever wished on a star, or a lucky cat, or a coin in a wishing well? Did it work in some way?

3. Have you ever cast a spell, made a love charm, or tried a curse? Did it work in some way?

4. Are there any other traditional superstitions you pay attention to? Do they work in some way?

5. Would you want major magical powers like in a fantasy story? Which powers, and how would you use them?

Copy and paste to your own journal, then reply to this post with a link to your answers. If your journal is private or friends-only, you can post your full answers in the comments below.

If you'd like to suggest questions for a future Friday Five, then do so on DreamWidth or LiveJournal. Old sets that were used have been deleted, so we encourage you to suggest some more!

Apparently last week was just a week of Doing Things, because along with setting up Saint All-fi (works most of the time well enough, thus far), I also made my first Suruga-ya order for the year. It arrived yesterday, and didn't get dinged for tariffs because it was all books. (One gunpla server is waiting to see how the tariffs are now and where the break-even point is for sales/fees, dollar-wise.) Two Gundam books, two Fire Emblem books. One replaces a weirdly damaged book from some years back, one I've never actually seen in stock before, two others just very good prices.

Premium Bandai did varying price points of Gundam Kit Fukubukuro this year, and just put up a few more sets. I snagged one earlier in the year and thought it okay and after some dithering, picked up another. They've all been very good deals, as far as MSRP goes. Since the one I just ordered is still a mystery to everyone, I'm going to try to keep it a surprise til I open it. This is difficult because plenty of people will receive theirs first and post to discords/reddit.

I am still mired in various projects, so my poll is still open for just a smidge longer.

Also, [personal profile] taichara and I had talked about Final Fantasy for weeks (months? years?) and what to play and I finally said 'roll for it' and we're playing Final Fantasy VII. I'm playing the Switch version, and trying out the various cheats for lulz. I am about to go into the Shinra building.

I also started playing Arknights again, kinda. I downloaded it onto a tablet so I could uninstall it from my phone (still there despite not playing in a year) and whoops, no guilt and a bunch of goodies, along with some nice QoL. Doubt I'll stick with it for more than a few weeks, but I did kinda miss everyone.

2026 Journal Stack

I meant to post this at the first of January, but because I didn't put it on my planner, it didn't get done. So here we are.

I started doing subscription boxes last year and like a gas expanding to fill its container, the addition of more notebooks in my life caused me to start using more notebooks. I put the really pretty ones aside as gifts, but I've been using the rest.

First up, the planners I have been using for years:
  • EC Life Planner - my work planner. I've been using this for seven years at this point.

  • Leuchtturm1917 A5 dot grid - my bullet journal workhorse. While I haven't used this exact notebook the whole time, I've been bullet journaling for nine years at this point. I use this for my personal life, as both a planner and a record/tracker.

Then we come to the new ones as of this year, although I started some of them before January 1.
  • Archer & Olive A4 dot grid - memory keeping journal. I paste ephemera in here along with stickers that suit my fancy. I write down reflections and more extended records than what is in my bujo. I draw a monthly calendar at the beginning of each month and write things down as they occur to me. There's no set schedule of entries.

  • Archer & Olive travelers notebook - this is a bit of a butler's book for my house. I have lists of repairs, contractors, expenses, and schedules.

  • Archer & Olive B6 dot grid notebook - this is my workout/physical therapy/recovery notebook. I'm using this to keep track of my recovery from breaking my leg last winter. I'm slowly getting back to where I was and this notebook gives me a track of my progress.

  • Archer & Olive 8x8 dot grid - home to my reading journal. I started this last year and filled it about halfway so I predict it will last me until the end of 2026. I keep track of Book Bingo, series tracker, my 'want to read' list, and a running tally of the books I've read. I also make decorative spreads for each book including a book data sheet that I created and the book cover.

There you have it!

Anyone else have a large planner stack this year?

* Upper Canada Films announced The Hockey Player, a feature documentary following Luke Prokop, the first openly gay hockey player under contract in the National Hockey League. Link to announcement on Prokop's insta

* The newly acquired squid's immigration process is taking longer than expected. He might be out a few games. This really sucks because we suddenly have an opening on the line he's expected to be on. One of our players took a boot to the face. Hopefully he's doing okay, but he's going to be out for a bit. Teams are very secretive about injuries so no idea how bad it is.

oneinist ([personal profile] oneinist) wrote in [community profile] addme2026-03-10 10:26 pm

Hello!

Name: Oneinist, or One (they/them)

Age: Middle aged

I mostly post about: So far I've posted general journals, a bit of poetry, and some prompts from the [community profile] snowflake_challenge. I've posted in English and Japanese. I'm still figuring out what I want to post about. I have a Naruto/KKIR fandom Tumblr, but I haven't decided to what extent I'll be posting fannish content here yet. I feel like I might post thoughts on fandom? Or at least I would like to. I'll find an excuse to turn anything into a bingo board.

My hobbies are: I have too many hobbies, and I tend to cycle through them, but I also have some core ones like watching anime, reading Japanese BL manga and listening to BLCDs, cooking, baking, writing, journaling, drawing and crafting. My latest hyper-fixation is Obsidian (note organizing software), and along with it HTML and CSS. The intensity of it varies and sometimes I take breaks or have slumps from my main ones too.

My fandoms are: I'm only active in the Naruto/Boruto fandom, but I still enjoy a variety of fandoms/media. As an example, love Star Trek Voyager and Natsume Book of Friends too; I just haven't created anything for either. I grew up on 90s Sailor Moon anime, so that one holds a special place in my heart.

I'm looking to meet people who: Post about a mix of things that we both have in common and don't have in common, it doesn't have to be fandom related, and it's not a requirement to share fandoms. I enjoy reading about everyday life around the world, hobbies, thoughts and feelings. I'm hoping to build relationships slowly and steadily.

My posting schedule tends to be: I've sort of gotten into the habit of doing the [community profile] justcreate check-in on Mondays, and at the same time I catch up on reading and commenting. I also post then if I'm feeling inspired. That being said, I don't want to stress myself out by trying to explicitly keep some sort of schedule.

When I add people, my dealbreakers are: If you write mainly about Christianity from a practicing Christian perspective we are likely not a good match. I'm fine with more cultural or secularized aspects of Christianity like Christmas for example (I decorate extensively myself).

Before adding me, you should know: English is not my first language, and sometimes I misunderstand. I'm sure we can work it out though. I can also be a bit bad at asking questions (I process a lot through association, so my mind slips into "that reminds me of the time I..." as a way of connecting when I've read something). In all languages I write in, I struggle with missing letters and spelling. Because of that, I'm quite self-conscious about my writing, and I can only ask for a bit of patience and grace. My energy levels vary throughout the day as well as the year, and if I go from very chatty to not that chatty, it's me and not you.
