SFC #6 - In your own space, Create something.

Wrapped up a just-for-fun illustration for one of Talysalankil's WIP novels today and do not have juice for any more creativity so it counts for the SFC #6 prompt. Going to spend the rest of the week (what's left of it before I have to get my booster shot, at least) making studies and textures to prepare for my next for-serious painting. I'm pretty excited about it :D



Off to go do yoga and then sit through a webinar. I hope no one looks at me with hungry eyes because I realize I haven't cooked dinner since last week but also... no. Not today either. I miss when we had a schedule for who cooks when, it was easier to exert the effort that way. I think once everyone's back from vacation, I'll talk to them about reinstating it.

Wow, this looks wonderful! I love the colours. And everyone's expression is saying so much, where each of their gazes is focused... This is really lovely. (Dropping by from the snowflake_challenge!)

Love the faces on all three of them (and also the one tucked away in the back off-centre there who's looking out toward the front of the picture). But her expression really grabbed me as soon as I clicked on the cut, and it keeps drawing my eye back again. I don't know why she keeps pulling me in, but I like it.

Very beautiful! I love all the details, from the hair to the ruffles on the dress, and the various expressions of all the characters. It is really telling a story on its own and has me intrigued to learn more.

Oh man, I really enjoyed making those ruffles. I knew exactly what I wanted them to look like, but apparently dresses like that don't actually get made a lot (most use a chiffon material for ruffles instead) because the best reference I could find was approximate at best. I'm glad to hear you like them and the other details :D Thank you.

Hahaha, that guy was quickly scribbled as a joke at the very beginning because I was going to paint him out into something more abstract but I liked him so much I ended up having to dignify him with some highlights and shadows.

Thank you so much! I think her smoulder really powered me through the whole process. It's a very sustained and intentional gaze! She was actually more smouldery in the sketch, but that's how it always is - some of the gesture/emotion is always dampened when going from loose scribbles to rendered definition. Always gotta exaggerate and play up as much as possible at the beginning to account for it. Mini process lecture, oops. *puts the lid back on his box of magic tricks*

Hey, look at me, I could be an art critic :DDDDDDD Or, more likely, artistic intent has been successfully realised, and your picture has had the effect you intended. Kudos! But honestly, talk about the magic as much as you like. Art remains something of a mystery to me, so hearing about the process is fascinating.
