Gothams

One-day Gotham paintings. I gathered a bunch of reference to design my own Gotham but I bit off a lot each time so I didn't have much stamina left to do any real crunchy detail work. Fun time designing composition, though. Hopefully I'll have time for more Gothams to focus on different stuff.

Wow, this looks so good and atmospheric!! I particularly like the first one, I think it might be because of the lighter colours at the back that contrast with the rest. This is super cool!!

Thank you! If you're interested in technical stuff, you're absolutely right, the first one's a stronger composition. The second one has an overall contrast between background and foreground that works but then lacks the dynamic use of far-away buildings. They're just... there. The first one cascades them neatly in dynamic diagonals, while the rooftops in the second one create one strong horizontal line that doesn't do anything exciting for the eye.

One of those things I couldn't see until I posted it and compared it to another painting and learned a lesson. :)

I don't understand the technical stuff but I'm always curious about it, and some words and concepts might sink in over time :D Thank you for the explanation, that's very cool!! And cool to look at them again after reading it and going oooooh I see what you mean now XD :D

Wow, so pretty! Love the colour schemes. Makes me think of computer games... these would make great game art.

LMAO, of course not Tetris ;) Was thinking of "dark" urban landscapes in adventure games, like VirtuaVerse (though that one is pixel art).

I love these. If I could frame them and put them on my wall, I would. I especially love how Batsy's silhouette mimics/blends in with the buildings of the skyline of the top one, really making him part of the city. I also really like what you've done with the lighting in the bottom one.
