Oh, and I must say I don't find it that bad if one just quotes their favourite sentence(es) back at me. Honestly, sometimes I really can't handle too detailed reviews...
Oh! My bad, I didn't meant to imply quoting was a lesser form of comment. People were expressing that, as commenters, quoting the fic was a reliable fallback when they really wanted to leave a comment but had twisted and squeezed their poor brains for something original to say and come up empty-handed.
It seems like that a popular sentiment in the discussion was, "I don't want to simply say 'I liked this' and if that's all I can come up with, I'd rather not say anything." (Which, mood.) So the contrast was that in fic, they could rely upon quoting to get them through to the scary moment, it was a huge relief, but with art..... there wasn't any safety net. They didn't know how to say anything that felt valuable so they didn't say anything.
