Hot chocolate makes everything so much better, it's not even funny.
Also, I'm pretty sure there is a fancy expression for it, but I'm especially impressed by how your light shading makes the rich, dark colour of the cup really stand out. Lovely!
Hmmm I think the expression you're looking for might be "use of contrast." In place of "light shading" it makes a completely convincing fancy art crit sentence! :)
I've actually been chipping away slowly at a doc of how to talk about online art you enjoy, mostly giving out useful phrases that the artist will recognize as meaning specific things. Started it after reading a discussion between fans who know how to talk about fanfics and, worst case scenario, can easily paste passages into their comment to say "I like this" but it's scarier for them to comment on fanart. It's gotten away from me and grown a bit cumbersome though...
In the meantime you just have to handle me blundering through your art, haha! No, but really: that's an excellent idea to assemble that doc. :)
Oh, and I must say I don't find it that bad if one just quotes their favourite sentence(es) back at me. Honestly, sometimes I really can't handle too detailed reviews...
Oh! My bad, I didn't meant to imply quoting was a lesser form of comment. People were expressing that, as commenters, quoting the fic was a reliable fallback when they really wanted to leave a comment but had twisted and squeezed their poor brains for something original to say and come up empty-handed.
It seems like that a popular sentiment in the discussion was, "I don't want to simply say 'I liked this' and if that's all I can come up with, I'd rather not say anything." (Which, mood.) So the contrast was that in fic, they could rely upon quoting to get them through to the scary moment, it was a huge relief, but with art..... there wasn't any safety net. They didn't know how to say anything that felt valuable so they didn't say anything.
Sometimes creativity is like that. I've written things into a story that I didn't realize I was putting there until later.
What got me thinking "self-care" was the rosy palette, the word "love" on the bottle, and "Godiva" on the cup. They all point to coziness and comfort, things people do to pamper themselves a little.
I very much go out of my way to replicate the experience/result of painting with real brushes. :D Def one of those things where it's worth it to study traditionally first because personal experience is always a winner when it comes to conveying something.
